We started out in Casino Windsor. Both of us did very well. The casino, its staff, and amenities were first class. They had a bit of a twist to the game called “perfect pair” a side bet on drawing a pair on the first two cards. I did not play that I stuck to the Black Jack part. We walked to the rivers edge and took some pictures of Detroit. The pictures from Canada are very deceptive .. it looks good, handsome, and prosperous.
We drove through the tunnel and after a fairly brief but unpleasant encounter with a US Customs agent, we were on our way. I guess it is important to remember they represent us or is that US. At any rate it show what happens when we forget who we are and our heritage and let ideologues do our thinking for us.
There are at least two casinos in Detroit. We, unfortunately picked the wrong one. It was dirty, smelly, and CHEAP. We beat a hasty retreat and headed for the MGM Grand, a casino on a par with what we have grown accustom to. They too had the PP option which we both stayed away from. One of us broke even and the other doubled their money.
We headed west per our Google Map instructions and stopped at a suburban strip mall for lunch. A place called Leo’s Coney Island. Chili dogs and pop hit the spot. We also fueled the car and were on our way to Gary.
Google maps directed us to the Majestic Star, a moored casino boat. We found the place not very crowed, for a Friday night, with lots of room and lots of $10 black jack tables. Den picked one and I wandered a bit before sitting at a table with a rookie and his lady. The pit boss asked if I were a player and would I mind helping the rookie with basic play. I said I was a fairly decent player but no pro. After a few initial expected losses and the always, when giving advice, double on eleven when the dealer shows a five. We did get a a nine for a point count of twenty. The deal turned a 10 for a point count of fifteen and then drew a darn six to have total point count of twenty-one and we loose. As the evening wore on we did eventually win a nice piece of change, not as good as the earlier two, but nice. The rookie did very well. He obviously was paying very close attention to me.
All for now. We’re in Buffalo Grove until Tuesday morning.
